Patients' prescriptions will be written with enough refills to last until the next appointment.
It is recommend that you schedule your next appointment at the end of each visit to ensure you are following your treatment plan and do not run out of medication.
Medication refills are done during the appointment time only. If something unexpected occurs, please have your pharmacy call or fax to request a refill, or please utilize the patient portal in order to send a message to the provider. Please allow up to five business days for the refill to be approved, if appropriate, and schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
Control substances such as benzodiazepines and stimulants are tightly regulated by the DEA. These medications can be very useful when indicated, but require more monitoring and must be part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
Controlled substances cannot be refilled if the patient is not reasonably compliant with appointments.
There will be no early refills of controlled substances for any reason. In the incidence of theft, a police report is required for documentation in order to obtain an early refill of medication.
Any aggressive or inappropriate behaviors, non-compliance with appointments, or staff harassment in or around the prescribing of controlled substances will result in a one-time, rapid taper of the medication and immediate discharge from our care.
If a prescription for a controlled substance is deemed appropriate, the patient will be required to obtain a urine drug screen before the first prescription will be provided, along with regular urine drug screens for refills. An EKG before the first prescription of stimulant medication is also required.
